(11020) Orwell is an asteroid of the main belt , the July 31, 1984 by Czech astronomer Antonín Mrkos at Kleť Observatory ( IAU code 046) near the town of Cesky Krumlov in Bohemia in the Czech Republic was discovered. Earlier sightings of the asteroid had already been made on September 24, 1979 under the provisional designation 1979 SA 9 at the Crimean Observatory in Nautschnyj .
The asteroid belongs to the Themis family, a group of asteroids named after (24) Themis .
(11020) Orwell was named on May 23, 2000 after the English writer , essayist and journalist George Orwell (1903–1950), who became world famous for his works Animal Farm and 1984 .
