Vinuesa is a place and a mountain community with 855 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2019) in the northwest of the Spanish province of Soria in the autonomous community of Castile-León .
location
The place Vinuesa is located in the mountain landscape in the north of the province of Soria at an altitude of approx. 1110 m above sea level. d. M. The distance to the provincial capital Soria is about 33 km (driving distance) in a southeast direction. Population development
year | 1900 | 1950 | 2000 | 2016 |
Residents | 908 | 1,294 | 1,070 | 911 |
The significant population decline since the 1950s is mainly due to the mechanization of agriculture and the associated loss of jobs.
economy
For centuries the place served as an important trade, craft and service center for the rural villages and farmsteads in the area. It was also an important station in the system of trade and livestock routes ( Cabaña Real de Carreteros ) in northern Spain. Today tourism in the form of renting out holiday homes ( casas rurales ) plays a not insignificant role for the town's income.
history
The history of Vinuesa possibly dates back to Celtiberian and Roman times when the place was known as Visontium . The Visigoths left no traces in this remote area. After the Arab-Moorish conquest , large areas in the north of the Iberian Peninsula were depopulated . Not until the beginning of the 10th century under the Castilian Count Gonzalo Téllez and then in the second half of the 11th century under Alfonso VI. the area was recaptured ( reconquista ) and repopulated ( repoblación ) by the Christians . The Castilian kings John I and John II used the area as a hunting ground in the late Middle Ages.

On the outer walls of the side aisles, there are several late Baroque altarpieces with some Churrigueresque elements.
- A hexagonal baroque court column ( rollo or picota ) from 1776 with a top extending in the four cardinal directions rises on a plinth that has been stepped down several times in front of the church .
- There are several representative aristocratic palaces from the 17th and 18th centuries, of which the Palacio de los Marqueses de Vilueña and the Palacio de Don Pedro de Neyla are the most important.
