economy

history

Ancient authors such as Strabon , Apianus, Pliny and Diodorus Siculus mention a place called Segontio Lanka or Lagni , but it could also be the nearby Berlanga de Duero . Celtiberians , Romans and Visigoths were here without leaving any clear traces. During the Islamic period , the area was depopulated and was not repopulated ( repoblación ) until the 11th and 12th centuries by immigrants from the Christian north, but also from southern Spain . In the 18th century the place was transferred to the Count of Miranda.

  • The mighty keep ( torre de homenaje ) of the medieval castle towers over the place - it is about 20 meters high, the side length is about 12 meters with a wall thickness of about two meters. The entrance was about 2.50 meters high and could only be reached via a ladder that could be pulled in in the event of a defense.
  • The church of San Miguel Arcángel is an impressive one-nave building from the 15th century, of which only the apse has survived, over which - as part of a renovation in the 17th century - a bell gable ( espadaña ) was placed. The former west side was completely renewed and now forms the choir of the church.
  • A twelve-arched - several times renewed - medieval bridge ( puente medieval ) leads over the Duero.
