The mechanization of agriculture , the abandonment of small farms and the associated loss of jobs led to a noticeable decline in the population ( rural exodus ) in the second half of the 20th century .
economy
For centuries the community lived exclusively from growing grain ( barley and wheat ), which was mainly operated for self-sufficiency ; In addition, livestock husbandry ( sheep , goats , chickens ) was of the greatest importance. Today agriculture still plays the most important role, but income from tourism (rental of holiday homes) has also been added.
history
There is evidence of a Celtiberian settlement called Virovias . Three funerary steles date from Roman times and are now in the Museum of Numantia ; At that time the place was on a road that connected Numantia (near Garray ) with Bilbilis ( Calatayud ) and Caesaraugusta ( Saragossa ). After the Arab-Moorish conquest , large areas in the north of the Iberian Peninsula were depopulated . In the 10th century began under the Castilian Count Gonzalo Téllez in the first half of the 12th century under I. Alfonso of Aragon completed recapture ( reconquista ) of Old Castile . During this time, Borobia was repopulated or repopulated ( repoblación ) by settlers from the Christian north . In the 14th century the place suffered from the Castilian-Aragonese " War of the Two Peter ". The local castle served to secure the once contested border - a situation that became obsolete when Isabella of Castile and Ferdinand of Aragón married in 1469.
