(2147) Kharadze ( 1976 US ; 1966 CT ) is an asteroid of the main outer belt belonging to the Veritas family and discovered on October 25, 1976 by Richard Martin West at the La Silla Observatory .
designation
The asteroid was named by the discoverer after Evgenij Kirillovich Kharadze (1907-2001). He was the founder of the Abastumani Astrophysical Observatory , after which the asteroid (1390) Abastumani was named, and its director since 1932. From 1972 to 1978 he was Vice President and later President of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences and from 1976 to 1982 Vice President of the International Astronomical Union (IAU).
