(2586) Matson ( 1980 LO ; 1962 PR ; 1972 GF 2 , 1976 JZ 2 ; 1977 RJ 5 ) is about seven kilometers in Asteroid of the inner main belt , which from June 17, 1980 American US astronomer Carolyn Shoemaker on recordings by the US astronomers Eleanor Helin and Schelte John Bus at the Palomar Observatory about 80 kilometers northeast of San Diego , California ( IAU code 675).
designation
(2586) Matson was named after Dennis L. Matson , a planetologist at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory . He took a leading role in the development of the method for determining the sizes and albedos of asteroids using infrared radiometry .
