(2836) Sobolev ( 1978 YQ ; 1930 QM ; 1951 RH 1 ; 1959 CE ; 1969 AM ; 1975 EQ 2 ; 1977 RH 3 ; 1980 EM ) is an asteroid approximately 19 kilometers in size in the main outer belt that dated December 22, 1978 Russian (then: Soviet Union ) astronomer Nikolai Stepanowitsch Tschernych at the Crimean Observatory (Nautschnyj branch) on the Crimean peninsula ( IAU code 095). It belongs to the Eos family , a group of asteroids that after (221) Eos is named

(2836) Sobolev was named after the astrophysicist Viktor Viktorovych Soboljew (1915-1998), who was a professor at the State University of St. Petersburg (then: State University of Leningrad ).
