(2925) Beatty ( 1978 VC 5 ; 1939 GA ; 1950 EW ; 1976 HX ; 1976 JH 1 ; 1983 CP 3 ; 1987 HV 2 ) is an approximately seven kilometers large asteroid of the main inner belt that was released on November 7, 1978 by the US - American astronomers scolded John Bus and Eleanor Helin at the Palomar Observatory northeast of San Diego in California ( IAU code 675).
designation
(2925) Beatty was named after J. Kelly Beatty , an associate editor of the astronomical journal Sky & Telescope . The asteroid was named after Beatty on the occasion of his wedding on October 1, 1983. Beatty is a long-time friend of the explorer Schelte John Bus and supported the observation of asteroids at the Palomar Observatory as a geologist and planetologist for many years.
