(2959) Scholl ( 1983 RE 2 ; 1968 UB 3 ; 1977 UK ; 1978 EY 1 ) is an approximately 33 km large asteroid of the outer main belt that was discovered on September 4, 1983 by the American astronomer Edward LG Bowell at the Lowell Observatory , Anderson Mesa Station ( Anderson Mesa ) near Flagstaff , Arizona ( IAU code 688) was discovered.
designation
(2959) Scholl was named after the German astronomer Hans Scholl (* 1942) who worked at the Astronomical Computing Institute in Heidelberg . He is known for theoretical work on the orbits of minor planets and has studied orbital resonance in the main outer belt and studied several orbits, including those of (2062) Aten and (2060) Chiron .
