(30928) Jefferson is an asteroid of the main middle belt , which was discovered by the Belgian astronomer Eric Walter Elst on October 9, 1993 at the La Silla Observatory of the European Southern Observatory in Chile ( IAU code 809).

The mean diameter of the asteroid was calculated to be 6.456 (± 0.231) km .

The mean distance from the sun ( major semi-axis ), eccentricity and inclination of the orbit plane of the asteroid roughly correspond to the Maria family, a group of asteroids named after (170) Maria .

(30928) Jefferson was named on April 9, 2009 after Thomas Jefferson , the third President of the United States .
