(5530) Eisinga is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on September 24, 1960 by the Dutch astronomer couple Cornelis Johannes van Houten and Ingrid van Houten-Groeneveld . The discovery came about as part of the Palomar-Leiden survey , during which Tom Gehrels examined field plates recorded at the University of Leiden with the 120 cm Oschin Schmidt telescope of the Palomar observatory .
The asteroid was named after the Dutch amateur astronomer Eise Eisinga (1744-1828) who built the oldest functioning model of the solar system in Franeker with the Eisinga Planetarium named after him from 1774 to 1781 .
