(6293) Upper Palatinate is an asteroid in the inner main belt that was discovered by the German astronomer Freimut Börngen on November 26, 1987 at the Tautenburg Observatory ( IAU code 033) in Thuringia .
The asteroid was named after the region and the administrative district of Upper Palatinate in eastern Bavaria .
