-isb cad- is a CAD program for the creation of 2D plans in structural engineering and is developed by GLASER -isb cad- Programmsysteme GmbH. The program is highly specialized in the requirements of construction planning . Among other things, it is suitable for creating input, position, formwork and reinforcement plans . The first version of -isb cad- was released in 1985. -isb cad- is currently available in 2018. Significant innovations in -isb cad- 2018 are a note function, the automatic generation of steel bars in any polygons even without FEM results, freely selectable key combinations and an extended group manager. The software is used by over 9,500 users and is mainly distributed in Germany, Poland, Russia, Romania, Austria and Switzerland.

Range of functions

Due to its modular structure, -isb cad- is scalable for different areas of activity. The general construction program and the general reinforcement program are the basis for all program extensions.

General construction program

The general construction program contains basic functions to create and edit geometric shapes and elements, dimensional chains and texts as 2D representations. This allows floor plans , sections , elevations, design , execution and detail drawings , including all annotations and dimensions for each area of construction and civil engineering works to be constructed. The integrated automatic film system gives plans a meaningful structure.

General reinforcement program

The task of the general reinforcement program is to lay and manage the reinforcing steel reinforcement required for the manufacture of reinforced concrete components in plans. Special functions serve to carry out the appropriate laying of round steel and welded wire mesh. Steel and bending lists can be output automatically on the basis of the placement. -isb cad- creates cutting sketches to optimize the required number of welded wire mesh. A special feature of the program is the possibility of generating automatic reinforcement proposals based on the calculation results of the finite element method (FEM). These data are obtained from the static calculation of the components. -isb cad- is able to interpret and implement the data of almost all German FEM programs that are used in construction .

Variant programs

Another distinctive feature of -isb cad- are the variant programs. These special programs are used to quickly create complete formwork and reinforcement plans for standard components such as beams , claddings, columns , foundations , stairs , etc. In contrast to the general construction and reinforcement program, this is not done with the help of CAD functions . Rather, the component-specific parameters for geometry and reinforcement are entered numerically . These parameters are interpreted by the variant programs and automatically converted into drawings. The steel lists are also created automatically here.

-isb cad- Academy

The current -isb cad- version is made available to students, schoolchildren and trainees free of charge for non-commercial use. -isb cad- Academy has over 3,900 registered users and is available in German and Polish. The University of Applied Sciences and Arts Hildesheim has created numerous video tutorials for working with -isb cad- for all students, pupils and trainees.

Data exchange

-isb cad- saves data with the file extension AKT. For data exchange with third-party programs, -isb cad- also maintains interfaces to the file formats DXF , DWG , DGN , PDF , PLT , BMP , WMF , EMF and BVBS . In spring 2017 the Allgemeine Bauzeitung announced that -isb-cad- was entering into a cooperation with the Tekla CAD program for the BIM area .

  • 2017: Release of -isb cad- 2018 in December 2017.
