Sicily
- Dionysius I of Syracuse breaks his treaty with the Carthaginians , which provides for the partition of Sicily , and begins a campaign to conquer the island . Dionysios' siege of the city of Segesta is significant .
- The Carthaginians build the fortress Marsala (Lilybaion) in western Sicily after Dionysius of Syracuse destroyed their base at Mozia .
Roman Republic
- Lucius Iulius Iullus, Lucius Furius Medullinus , Lucius Sergius Fidenas , Aulus Postumius Albinus Regillensis, Publius Cornelius Maluginensis and Aulus Manlius Vulso Capitolinus become Roman consular tribunes .
- According to tradition, the Roman Republic wages wars against the Volsker , Aequer , Vejenter , Falisker and Capenaten . Troops from the city of Tarquinii invade Roman territory .

- In his 7th year (398 to 397 BC) the Achaemenid king Artaxerxes II lets the additional month Addaru II switch, which begins on March 18th.
- Babylonian astronomers record the results of their observation of the lunar eclipse of March 31–1. April (14th Addaru II) and in the 8th year of Artaxerxes II. (397 to 396 BC) the observation results of the lunar eclipse from 24-25. September (14th Ululu).
- In the Babylonian calendar , the beginning of the first year of Nisannu falls on the 16th – 17th centuries. April; the full moon in Nisannu on 29-30. April, the 1st ululu on the 11th-12th September and the 1st Tašritu on 10-11. October.
