- Once again, Emperor Vespasian and his son Titus are full consul of the Roman Empire . His second son Domitian becomes a suffect consul , then the previous governor of the province of Gallia Aquitania , Gnaeus Iulius Agricola .

- at 77: The first ten volumes of the encyclopedia Naturalis historia by Pliny the Elder are published. In it, Pliny arranges traditional scientific knowledge of Greek authors such as Aristotle , Theophrastus of Eresus and Hippocrates of Kos directly from manuscripts and relates this to new knowledge. The encyclopedia deals with the subjects of cosmography, geography and climatology, anthropology and zoology.

- Pliny the Elder describes hot springs in the area of today's Wiesbaden for the first time . A little later, the Roman settlement Aquae Mattiacorum was built here .
