8. San Marine Cabinet
The 8th San Marino Cabinet was not a regular government but an emergency cabinet made up of members from all fractions. It served from June 30 to September 23, 1951.
In the parliamentary elections in 1949, the Comitato dell Libertà , a joint list of communists, socialists and republicans, won 35 out of 60 seats in the San Marinese parliament, the Consiglio Grande e Generale (CdL). The right-wing parties also came up with a common list, the Alleanza Popolare Sammarinese (APS). In the course of the following two years the economic problems of San Marino grew and the relationship with the Christian Democratic government of Italy deteriorated increasingly. As a way out of the economic crisis, the San-Marinese government decided to establish a casino near the border with Italy, which was met with massive protests by the Italian government and led to the border being blocked by Italy.
On June 30, 1951, the Consiglio Grande e Generale transferred power to a government council (Consiglio di Reggenza) , which in addition to the two heads of state ( Capitani Reggente ) another 14 members. The previous opposition and government each had eight members.
New elections were scheduled for September 16, 1951, which were again won by the left. Communists and socialists ran on separate lists and together won 31 seats.
