Abysmal Dawn is an American technical death metal band from Los Angeles , California that was formed in 2003.
history
The band was formed towards the end of 2003 by guitarist and singer Charles Elliott, guitarist Jamie Boulanger and drummer Terry Barajas. Their first demo in the winter of 2004 increased their popularity and led to concerts with groups such as Exodus , 3 Inches of Blood , Hate Eternal , Into Eternity and Aborted . In November 2005, work began on the debut album From Ashes , which was produced by John Haddad . After the album was released via Crash Music in 2006 , the first US tour followed with Six Feet Under and Decapitated , which lasted five weeks. The band also played concerts with Suffocation , Emperor , Immortal , Goatwhore , Decrepit Birth , Krisiun , Incantation , Exhumed , Disgorge , Impaled and Crisis . In 2007 bassist Mike Cosio joined the band. After the band had played at some festivals, the three-month recordings for the second album began in November in Haddad's new studio. Relapse Records signed the band in February 2008 and released the album Programmed to Consume in May 2008. After Ian Jekelis joined the band as the new guitarist, Jamie Boulanger left the band. In 2011 the next album Leveling the Plane of Existence followed via Relapse Records .
style
The band plays technically demanding death metal, comparable to the early works of Morbid Angel . The guitar riffs are sometimes reminiscent of those of melodic death metal bands like At the Gates , Dark Tranquility and In Flames .
