Christoph Kemper (* 1969) was the keyboard player for various local bands around Recklinghausen in the mid-1980s and played regularly with musicians such as Christian Jendreiko and Stefan Werni . After graduating from high school in Petrinum in 1988, he began studying electrical engineering at the Ruhr University in Bochum ; in the event that he should not "make it" as a musician, he had a job as a sound engineer in the music business. During this time he developed and built his first virtual analog synthesizer . In order to sell his instrument successfully, he teamed up with Guido Kirsch, the managing director of the then already existing Access Midi Tools .

It started in 1997 with the Access Virus Series A, which was presented at the Frankfurt Music Fair that same year. A year later, Access presented Virus A at the NAMM Show in Los Angeles . In the first year 300 synthesizers were sold, in 2003 there were already 4200 units sold. Access benefited from the height of dance, techno and house music in the late 1990s.

The Virus series is now world-famous and is used in numerous productions. Kemper is currently (2018) still managing director and is now also responsible for sales.

Access Music is privately owned and today has around 20 permanent employees.
