Acheral (also: Echeralito ) is a town in the Tarija Department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

Acheral is a scattered settlement in the canton of Zapatera in the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Caraparí in the southwestern part of the Gran Chaco province . The village is located at an altitude of 1094  m on the slopes of the Serranía Itaú , a north-south running Voranden chain of the Bolivian Andes in the southeast of the country.

Acheral lies between the Bolivian Andean chains in the west and the lowlands of the subtropical Gran Chaco in the east. The climate is subtropical with hot humid summers and moderately warm and dry winters.

Transport network

Acheral lies at a distance of 268 kilometers by road east of Tarija , the capital of the department.

The highway Ruta 29 runs through Acheral, which leads north to Palos Blancos and meets Ruta 11 there. This leads 173 kilometers to the west and meets the Ruta 1 eight kilometers before Tarija , which from there crosses the entire Altiplano to the north and finally reaches Desaguadero on the Peruvian border via the large cities of Potosí , Oruro and El Alto .

In a south-easterly direction, the Ruta 29 leads via Caraparí to the village of Campo Pajoso , 50 kilometers away , where it meets the lowland highway Ruta 9 . This leads from Yacuiba on the Argentine border in the south via the metropolis of Santa Cruz all the way north to the city of Guayaramerín in the Beni lowlands on the Brazilian border.

From Caraparí, 27 kilometers away, the Ruta 33 leads 169 kilometers to Bermejo on the Argentine border and from there is connected to the northern Argentine cities of Aguas Blancas and Pichanal via the Ruta Nacional 50 .
