Achim Schneider (born September 17, 1950 in Augsburg ) is a German gynecologist and obstetrician .

Live and act

Achim Schneider put in 1969 at grammar school St. Stephen in Augsburg the Abitur from. He studied medicine at the Universities of Würzburg , Vienna , Innsbruck and Ulm , where he also received his doctorate in 1975 . In the same year, he also takes the American state examination (ECFMG). He worked as a medical assistant in Berlin and Nuremberg and then for one year as an assistant doctor in the Esslingen gynecological clinic and the surgical department of the Schorndorf hospital . As a military alternative service, he worked as a doctor in Butha Buthe, Lesotho with the German Development Service.

Achim Schneider then worked for five years as a research assistant at the University Women's Clinic in Ulm , where he completed his habilitation in 1987 and became a specialist in gynecology and obstetrics . For the next seven years he worked there as a senior physician , became an adjunct professor , earned a Masters of Public Health from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore and made a fellowship in gynecological oncology at the University of Arizona , Tucson. He acquired all three sub-specializations, i. H. operative gynecology and gynecological oncology, obstetrics prenatal medicine and gynecological endocrinology and reproductive medicine and trained as a medical economist at the University of Bayreuth .

In 1994 he was appointed to the chair ( C4 professorship ) for gynecology at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena . From 2004 to 2013 he was full professor for gynecology and gynecological oncology and director of the clinic for gynecology at the Charité . Since 2014 he has been head of the dysplasia consultation hour at the Medical Care Center in Fürstenberg-Karree Berlin.

Achim Schneider has been married to the gynecologist Viola Schneider since 1992. You have two daughters and live in Berlin.

Professional focus

Achim Schneider's clinical work includes the diagnosis and therapy of genital neoplasms using minimally invasive procedures . He and his working group in Germany introduced and established new laparoscopic surgical techniques in gynecological oncology . Scientifically, he deals with the primary and secondary prevention of HPV- associated ano-genital neoplasms, where he acts as a clinical cooperation partner for Harald zur Hausen's working group .
