Adam Lee Burt (born January 15, 1969 in Detroit , Michigan ) is a former American ice hockey player who played 758 games for the Hartford Whalers , Carolina Hurricanes , Philadelphia Flyers and Atlanta Thrashers in the course of his active career between 1985 and 2001 of the National Hockey League in the position of defender .
Career
Burt spent his junior years in the Ontario Hockey League with the North Bay Centennials . There the defender played his rookie season in 1985/86 . In the summer of 1987 he was finally selected in the second round of the NHL Entry Draft 1987 in 39th place by the Hartford Whalers from the National Hockey League . This brought him to the end of the 1987/88 season in the roster of their farm team , the Binghamton Whalers . There and also with the Hartford Whalers in the NHL, Burt began the following season before he was sent back to the Centennials in the OHL to complete his fourth and final junior year there.
With the beginning of the 1989/90 season , the defender was finally in the regular squad of the Whalers, to which he belonged without reservation until the summer of 1997, before the Whalers were relocated and from then on played as the Carolina Hurricanes in the NHL. Burt stayed two more game years in the service of the Hurricanes before he was transferred to the Philadelphia Flyers in March 1999 in exchange for Andrei Kowalenko . For the Flyers he played the remainder of the 1998/99 season and the following. Since his contract had expired in the summer of 2000, he joined the Atlanta Thrashers as a free agent . Due to a back injury, Burt only played 27 games for Atlanta.
After Burt had remained without a contract in the 2001/02 game year and healed his injury, he decided in August 2002 at the age of 33 to end his active career.
International
For his home country, Burt was active in the Junior World Championships in 1987 and 1989 and the World Championships in 1993 and 1998 .
