Adolf Friedrich von Besser (born February 25, 1777 in Lübben , † March 16, 1836 in Koblenz ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

Friedrich was a son of the general auction controller in Lower Lusatia, Wilhelm von Besser (1738-1811) and his wife Henriette, née von Sternstein († 1790). The Prussian Major General Ehrenreich Wilhelm Gottlieb von Besser (1740–1807) and the Saxon Major General Johann Christian Gotthilf von Besser (1737–1806) were his uncles.

Military career

Besser attended the grammar school in Lübben and in 1792 joined the “Sachsen-Gotha” regiment of the Electoral Saxon Army as a Junker . He was born on May 1, 1792 cadet , took two years later his farewell and stepped on September 1, 1794 Porteefähnrich in the Infantry Regiment "von Bonin" the Prussian army one. Besser advanced to secondary lieutenant until the beginning of October 1797 and was adjutant of the 1st battalion from March 1800 . During the Fourth Coalition War he fought in battle near Halle, Luchen and Waren. When the corps surrendered near Lübeck, he was taken prisoner. Then Besser was made inactive and placed on half pay. On May 14, 1810 he was promoted to prime lieutenant and received on October 7, 1811 his departure as a staff captain with a waiting fee and permission to continue wearing the uniform.

With the beginning of the Wars of Liberation , Besser reported again and on June 1, 1813, joined the 2nd West Prussian Landwehr Infantry Regiment as a major . In the subsequent war he fought in the siege of Torgau and Magdeburg . For Torgau he received the Iron Cross 2nd class. On April 30, 1815 he came to the 5th East Prussian Landwehr Infantry Regiment, on June 30, 1816 to the 30th Infantry Regiment and on March 31, 1817 to the 5th Infantry Regiment. There he was on April 13, 1817 lieutenant colonel and on March 30, 1817 battalion commander. On March 17, 1820, he was transferred to the 30th Infantry Regiment , where he was appointed Colonel on June 30, 1825 and with the command of the 16th Infantry Regiment . On November 14, 1826 he was appointed regiment commander and on November 22, 1830 he was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle III. Class excellent. On March 20, 1834 he received his departure with the character of major general and a pension of 1750 thalers. He died on March 16, 1836 in Koblenz.

Besser married Dorothea von Engelbrechten (1775–1862), widow of Heinrich von Levetzow , on April 16, 1805 . The couple had the following children:
