On April 1, 1921, Klughardt took over the chair for prosthetics and orthodontics . In the course of the seizure of power , he became a supporting member of the SS and joined the NSDAP in 1937 . After the unconditional surrender of the Wehrmacht , he was imprisoned in Weimar by the Soviet occupying forces . The State Security Service of the GDR led him later as a research assistant. His hunting lodge in the Thuringian Forest was retained.

In 1948 Klughardt married his long-time assistant Ruth Becker, who was still living in Klughardt's villa in Jena as a medical councilor in 1985 .
