Friedrich Gustav Adolf Neumann (born June 5, 1825 in Leipzig ; † November 20, 1884 ibid) was a German painter , draftsman and copyist , graphic artist and marine painter , as well as copper and steel engraver .

Life

Adolf Neumann was the brother of the wood engraver August Neumann , who ran a xylographic studio in Leipzig. He studied under Veit Hanns Schnorr von Carolsfeld at the Leipzig Art Academy and in the Leipzig studio of the copper engraver Henry Winkles , and later with Lazarus Gottlieb Sichling and Carl Werner .

Adolf Neumann often signed with the letters “AN”. Since the 1850s, many of his drawings, especially portraits of people, have appeared in the Illustrirten Zeitung and the family paper Die Gartenlaube .
