Adolph von Randow

Carl Wilhelm Adolph von Randow (born January 6, 1801 in Albersloh , † January 13, 1891 in Potsdam ) was a Prussian officer , most recently lieutenant general and director of the Great Military Orphanage .

Life

Adolph came from the noble family of the von Randow . After the early loss of his parents, he was brought up in the Berlin Cadet House from 1815 , which laid the foundation for a long military career. At the age of 18 he was second lieutenant and in 1819 was assigned to the 1st Guards Regiment on foot , whose uniform Randow had worn for 51 years.

Randow was a lifelong friend of Helmuth Graf von Moltke , who was almost the same age and who would later become the Prussian Field Marshal General , whom he had met in his early years of service in the topographic office .

On June 6, 1840, he married the 26-year-old Malwine, daughter of the major general and commandant of the Berlin house for invalids, Jacob Bogislaw von Puttkamer . The couple had four sons and four daughters, including:

Military career

  • 1822–1825: Committed to the General War School.
  • 1826–1828: Teacher at the division school of the 1st Guard Division
  • 1828–1831: Assigned to the topographic office
  • 1834: Prime Lieutenant
  • 1839–1840: Company commander in the school department of the training infantry battalion
  • 1840: Captain and chief of the 10th Company in the 1st Guard Regiment on foot
  • 1846: Commander of the school department
  • 1848: Major and commander of the NCO School in Potsdam
  • 1849: 2nd Commander of the 1st Battalion in the 3rd Guards Landwehr Regiment in Görlitz
  • 1853: Promoted to lieutenant colonel and - due to severe myopia - retired from active service
  • 1853: (November) Commander of the Silberberg Fortress in the Frankenstein district (Silesia)
  • 1856: Director of the Great Military Orphanage in Potsdam (for boys) and Pretzsch Castle (for girls)
  • 1858: Elected to the committee of 148 electors of the city of Potsdam who elected the city council
  • 1861: Colonel
  • 1866: entrusted with the management of the Potsdam commandant's office for four months.
  • 1869: 50th service anniversary
  • 1870: Major General
  • 1879: Lieutenant General , 60th service anniversary, with congratulations from the Emperor
  • 1881: Farewell to the pension of a regimental commander
