Jacob Bogislaw von Puttkamer (born August 21, 1753 in Schluschow , † April 30, 1846 in Berlin ) was a Prussian officer , most recently lieutenant general and commander of the Berlin house for invalids .

Life

origin

Jacob Bogislaw came from the Puttkamer noble family from the Pomerania and was the third son of Erasmus Georg von Puttkamer (1724-1754), Lord on Schluschow , and his wife Barbara Elisabeth, née von Lewińska (1714-1793). The couple had a daughter and three sons.

Civil training

Puttkamer initially attended the village school in Schluschow, but was then requested as court page by the Prussian King Friedrich II in 1766 . He then received his further general education at the Pagenschule in Potsdam .

Puttkamer occurred on 20 June 1773 ensign in the regiment Guard and took with this 1778/79 on the War of Bavarian Succession in part. In 1779 he became second lieutenant , in 1785 prime lieutenant and finally in 1790 staff captain . As such he fought with his regiment in the 1793/95 campaign near Mainz , Pirmasens , Kaiserslautern , at the Kettricher Hof and Trippstadt . On August 9, 1797 he was appointed company commander and promoted to captain . As a major (since September 9, 1800) he suffered a wound in the Battle of Auerstedt in 1806 and was inactivated by the surrender of the Prussian troops near Prenzlau . After the Peace of Tilsit , he was further employed as commander of the Guard Invalid Battalion in Potsdam . On June 9, 1812, he was then appointed lieutenant colonel, and one year later he was entrusted with running the business as commandant of Potsdam. Puttkamer gave up his position as commander of the Guard Invalid Battalion on January 2, 1817 while retaining the position of chargé d'affaires of the Potsdam commandant . As a colonel (since June 5, 1815), he was finally appointed commander of Potsdam on September 1, 1817.

On the occasion of his 50th service anniversary, Friedrich Wilhelm III awarded him . the character as major general . In 1828 Puttkamer was appointed commandant of the Invalidenhaus in Berlin. On his 70th service anniversary in 1843, Puttkamer received the character of Lieutenant General and the Order of the Red Eagle, 1st class. At that time he was the longest serving Prussian officer. The city of Potsdam made him an honorary citizen .

He was buried in the Invalidenfriedhof in Berlin.

Puttkamer was married to Anna Hedwig Auguste, born von der Groeben (* July 16, 1774, † May 1, 1825). The marriage had six children:
