The Aeolus is a installation ship from the Dutch company Van Oord . The type 187 ship was built at the Hamburg Sietas shipyard . The completion with the equipping of the four 87 meter long steel jack legs took place by July 2014 at the Lloyd shipyard in Bremerhaven . The ship is the first and only installation ship built at a German shipyard for the construction of offshore wind farms .
description
The Sietas shipyard took part in the development and design of installation vessels early on, and in December 2010 was the first German shipyard to receive an order for a third generation installation vessel. The ship is a combination of a transport ship, crane ship and offshore platform and was built for the Dutch hydraulic engineering company Van Oord. Van Oord placed the order for the first time in December 2010 with the Sietas shipyard, which was unable to process it as part of the insolvency proceedings . After a renewed agreement, the new order for the installation ship was placed in February 2012. The Sietas shipyard as the architect and integrator delivered the installation ship together with its former subsidiary Neuenfelder Maschinenfabrik (NMF), which has since been taken over by the Norwegian company of the TTS Group . NMF equipped the ship with a special offshore crane with a lifting force of up to 900 t .
The keel of the ship was laid on December 23, 2011. The hull was undocked on March 30, 2013 and the ship was handed over to the client on February 17, 2014. The delivery of the Aeolus was originally planned for the end of July 2013. After delivery, the lifting legs were installed at the Lloyd shipyard in Bremerhaven. The ship was christened on June 21, 2013 in Rotterdam . Godmother was the wife of the mayor of Rotterdam.
The Van Oord Group did not exercise the option to build a second ship at the Sietas shipyard because the construction of the offshore wind farms stalled.
The Aeolus is 139.4 meters long and 38 meters wide. The draft is 5.7 meters. The ship is designed for use in water up to 45 meters deep. It has a transport capacity of 6,500 tons (tdw) and a 3200 m², flexibly usable deck area with a fully integrated crane that can lift 900 tons of load with an outreach of 30 meters and work up to a height of about 120 meters above water . The ship is equipped with 26 single and 24 double cabins for the crew and service personnel, which is specified with 74 people. The great experience of the Sietas shipyard in the construction of heavy lift vessels leads to the special feature that the good stability of the Aeolus in port enables full crane operation without jacking operations.
Four main engines from Caterpillar with 4,500 kW each, together with four generators from Siemens, give the ship a speed of 12 knots via four electric traction motors and controllable pitch propellers .
