history

The name of the sucos comes from the former Timorese empire of Afaloicai . In the 1930s, the empire split into the three today's sucos of the same name. In Afaloicai-Uato Lari , a new ruler took over who did not belong to the previous Afaloicai ruling house.

At this time members of the Aldeias Buibela and Lena emigrated to Babulo. Other Afaloicai residents followed after World War II , who initially only worked as seasonal workers on the rice fields that arose in the coastal plain of Uato-Lari. Later they also settled firmly in Babulo. A third group was forcibly relocated to Babulo by the Indonesians after many civilians submitted to the invaders after the fall of the resistance base at Matebian in 1979.

In 1959 the Viqueque Rebellion broke out in the region . The rulers of Afaloicais were also involved in this last great uprising against the Portuguese colonial power. Abílio de Meneses, the Liurai of Afaloicai / Uato-Lari, was executed with six other rebels by the Portuguese on June 7th on the river Bebui. After the rebellion was put down, many Naueti lost land and livestock. The Portuguese gave it to loyal Timorese, mostly Makasaes.

politics

In the elections of 2004/2005 was Henrique de C. elected Chefe de Suco. In the 2009 elections won Constantinho Guterres .
