August (Agi) Lindegren (born August 29, 1858 in Hudiksvall , † December 16, 1927 in Drottningholm ) was a Swedish architect , painter and draftsman.

Life

Lindegren was the son of the businessman Thiodolf Lindegren and his wife Rosa Regnander. He studied from 1877 to 1882 at the Royal Technical University in Stockholm and for three more years at the art school in Sweden's capital. Like most artists of his time, he went on extensive study trips to France , Germany and Italy . During these years he was employed by a silk embroidery company in Paris as the designer of the templates.

After his permanent return to Sweden in 1888, Lindegren was initially entrusted with the interior decoration and restoration of various churches in Stockholm and the surrounding area. Various public companies and private individuals chose Lindegren as the architect for their representative buildings. Two of his most important works are the Gustav Wasa Church and the Biological Museum in Stockholm.

In addition to his work as an architect, Lindegren was active as a watercolor painter and illustrator of books. In 1899 he was elected representative of the Royal Academy of Art.

A cerebral hemorrhage in 1911 severely impaired Lindegren's performance. At that time he was the architect in charge of renovation work at Drottningholm Palace . After that he was only able to take part in the ongoing restoration work as an adviser.
