Agnes Thurid Gers (born August 4, 1997 in Kiel , Schleswig-Holstein ) is a German athlete who specializes in the 3000 meter obstacle course and also competes in medium-distance runs .
career path
Gers has been attending the Auguste Viktoria School , a grammar school in Flensburg , since 2007 , where she graduated from high school in 2016 . Then she was in Flensburg as part of the federal voluntary service for a year at the athletics club Weiche 1989 (LK Weiche), where she looked after school and youth groups, worked as a trainer with a C license , organized events and carried out public relations work . Since the winter semester 2017/18 Gers has been studying food technology at the Technical University of Berlin (TU Berlin) for a bachelor's degree .
Athletic career
Agnes Thurid Gers came to athletics after participating in the federal youth games in fourth grade , enjoying athletics and joining a club in fifth grade.
While Gers was 11th in the U18 age group over 1500 meters at the German Youth Championships in 2013 , she won the title of German runner-up in this discipline in 2014.
In 2015 she was both North German champion in the 1500 meter run and German champion over 2000 m obstacle in the U20 class .
In 2016 Gers became German U20 indoor champion over 1500 meters, which is why she was nominated by the German Athletics Association (DLV) for the U20 indoor international competition in Padua, where Gers took third place in a personal best of 4: 27.30 min 1500 meter run contributed to the victory of the German selection.
In 2017 she moved into the next age group and became German U23 runner-up over 3000 meters .
In 2018, Gers started the indoor season with the active and finished the 1500 meters at the German Indoor Championships with a personal best of 4: 26.73 minutes in 5th place. Over 3000 meters obstacle she became German U23 champion and came in 6th place in the German championships .
In 2019 she finished 6th this time in the German Indoor Championships in the 1500 meter run. Over the 3000 meter obstacle, Gers was German U23 runner-up for the second time and achieved bronze at the German championships . Before that, with a personal best of 9: 53.73 minutes at the U23 European Championships on her parade route, she achieved 4th place with only half a second behind the third-placed.
In 2020 Gers got in the wg. The open-air season that started late after the Covid-19 pandemic was again bronze over the obstacles at the German Championships in Braunschweig.
Gers is in the perspective of the German Athletics Association (DLV).
Club affiliations
Gers has been with SC Charlottenburg Berlin since September 5, 2017 and previously started for LG Flensburg (parent club TSV Nord Harrislee ).
