Agrochão is a municipality ( freguesia ) in the Portuguese district ( concelho ) of Vinhais . It has 280 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011).
history
Agrochão was founded in the Middle Ages, probably after the Reconquista . It was first mentioned in the royal surveys under King D.Afonso III. in 1258.
King D Dinis gave the place its first city rights in 1288.
Culture and sights
In addition to a manor house (solar) and a stone fountain, some sacred buildings are among the monuments of the community, in particular the pilgrimage church Santuário do Divino Senhor Jesus da Piedade .
There are two museums in the municipality, the ethnographic local museum Museu etnográfico rural and an olive oil museum, the Museu do Azeite . Besides the municipality of Vinhais, Agrochão is the only municipality in the Vinhais district that has its own museums.
