Aime

Aime is a commune Déléguée with 3,607 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the town of Aime-la-Plagne in the department of Savoie in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . It belonged to the arrondissement of Albertville and the canton of Bourg-Saint-Maurice .

With effect from January 1, 2016, the former municipalities of Aime , Granier and Montgirod were merged into a Commune nouvelle called Aime-la-Plagne.

geography

Aime is located in the Tarentaise valley below the La Plagne ski area . It is the capital of the canton of the same name . In addition to the main town of Aime, the three localities Villette, Tessens and Longefoy-sur-Aime belonged to the earlier municipality.

history

In ancient times, the former Axima (alternative name was Forum Claudii Ceutronum ) a major site of ancient mountain people of ceutrones .

Aime was the starting point of the 142 km long 17th stage of the Tour de France 2002 to Cluses , which was won by Dario Frigo .
