Ajay is a Hungarian town in the county Kisvárda in Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County .

Geographical location

Ajak is located five kilometers southwest of the city of Kisvárda . Neighboring communities are Anarcs , Rétközberencs , Pátroha and Nyírtass .

history

The place was mentioned in writing in the 13th century under the name Ayac. In the 19th century, Ajak was hit twice by cholera epidemics, in 1831 and 1873. The first epidemic fell victim to almost a quarter of the residents. The place received the status of a large municipality in 1972 , celebrated its 700th anniversary in 1993 and was raised to the rank of city in 2013.

traffic

Road No. 4145 runs through Ajak, and main road No. 4 to the west of the village . The city is connected to the railway line from Záhony to Nyíregyháza .
