The Akaflieg Munich Mü 31 is a high-performance glider of the 15 m FAI racing class of the student flying group Akaflieg Munich .

history

At the end of the 1990s, several members of the Academic Aviation Group were doing their theses at the Technical University of Munich to reduce the drag of gliders. This led to the design of a shoulder wing with an optimized wing-fuselage transition, the concept of which was tested in 2005 in the wind tunnel of the TU Delft with positive results. After the construction was completed, in 2008 the Akaflieg workshops in Garching near Munich began building a rupture cell for load tests on the wing and fuselage. The aircraft named Mü 31 was built in 2012 and its maiden flight on September 15, 2017 at the Königsdorf glider airfield .

construction

The aircraft with wings in a shoulder-wing arrangement in order to keep the intersection and thus the interference resistance between wing and fuselage low, was made of fiber composites . To reduce the construction effort, the fuselage and tail unit of the ASW 27 were used.
