The US Highway 14 runs through the northeast of the Town of Akan; the Wisconsin State Highway 171 leads in west-east direction through the center. In addition, the county highways U, X and F run through the area of the town. All other roads are subordinate country roads and some unpaved roads.
With Richland Airport there is a small airfield around 30 km east-southeast of the town. The nearest commercial airports are Dubuque Regional Airport in Iowa (around 130 km south), La Crosse Regional Airport (around 95 km northwest) and Dane County Regional Airport in Wisconsin's capital Madison (around 125 km east-southeast).
