Aki Rissanen

Aki Rissanen (* 1980 in Kuopio ) is a Finnish jazz musician ( piano , composition ).

Live and act

From 1990 Rissanen received classical piano lessons at the conservatory in his hometown, and then from 2000 to 2002 studied jazz and education at the Helsinki Polytechnic School Stadia . From 2005 to 2006 he studied at the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse de Paris and in 2009 did his Masters in jazz piano and composition at the Sibelius Academy . His teachers include Jarmo Savolainen , Jukkis Uotila , Kirmo Lintinen, Jim Beard , Anders Jormin , Hervé Sellin , Markku Hyvärinen, Jouni Kuronen and Seppo Kantonen . He also took private lessons from John Taylor .

Rissanen leads his own trio with Antti Lötjönen (bass) and Teppo Mäkynen (drums). With Robin Verheyen and Markku Ounaskari he forms the trio Aleatoric . Together with drummer Jussi Lehtonen , he leads a quartet to which Dave Liebman belongs. He is also known in Central Europe through his collaboration with Verneri Pohjola , on whose albums for ACT he can be heard. He has also recorded with Rick Margitza , Tim Hagans , Magnus Broo , Jim Beard and Robin Verheyen. He has also performed with the UMO Jazz Orchestra , Juhani Aaltonen , Pepa Päivinen , Randy Brecker , Mats Gustafsson , Sten Sandell , Ingrid Jensen , Michael Gibbs , Barry Guy , Daniel Humair , Bill Watrous , Jukka Perko , Eero Koivistoinen and Ulf Krokfors .

Prizes and awards

According to the Down Beat , he is considered a "rising star in Europe". He was also honored at the 2004 solo piano competition at the Montreux Jazz Festival (2nd place) and at the La Défense competition , which he won in 2006.
