Albert (Chiemsee)
Albert († 1252 ) was Bishop of Chiemsee from 1234–1244 .
Life
Albert's origin and year of birth are not known. He was canon of Salzburg and has been provost of the local cathedral chapter since 1219 . In this office he obtained the right to use the pontificals for himself and his successors . After the Chiemsee Bishop Rüdiger von Bergheim from Pope Gregory IX. the Passauer had been transferred bishop's chair, the Salzburg archbishop appointed Eberhard von Regensberg Provost Albert as his successor.
Probably because he in the dispute between the Emperor Frederick II. Was and the Pope on the part of the emperor, had Albert in 1244 at the instance of the archbishop to the bishopric resign . Although he later tried to revoke the resignation, Pope Innocent IV confirmed this on October 29, 1247. Since Albert Suerbeer and Heinrich von Bilversheim, who had been appointed administrators by the Pope , were not accepted and could not be enforced, there was a vacancy . It was only after the death of Bishop Albert in 1252 that the Dominican Heinrich was appointed his successor.
Bishop Albert was buried in the Salzburg Cathedral in the tomb of the cathedral chapter.
