Albert Bruckmayr
Albert Bruckmayr OSB (* 3. December 1913 in Schärding ; † 26. June 1982 in Wels ) was an Austrian Benedictine abbot in Kremsmünster .
Life
Paul Bruckmayr was born in Schärding into a merchant family. Educated at the Stiftsgymnasium Kremsmünster from 1924 to 1932, he entered the Benedictine Abbey of Kremsmünster on August 17, 1932 , where he took the religious name Albert. The next year he began studying in Rome, which lasted until 1937, and was ordained a priest on July 11 of that year in Kremsmünster .
Then Bruckmayr moved to the University of Vienna to study Greek and Latin , switched to the University of Berlin and received his doctorate in philosophy in 1940 , and in 1944 he also received his doctorate in theology (with the thesis The annoyance of Judaism to Paul ). He had now returned to Austria and during this time worked as chaplain to Viechtwang and Scharnstein .
In 1945, Bruckmayr was appointed Prefect of the Stiftskonvikt. At the same time he also became a professor at the Stiftsgymnasium. He remained prefect until 1964, on October 5th of that year he was elected abbot. The benediction took place on October 28th in the Kremsmünster collegiate church by Franz Salesius Zauner . This consecration mass was also the first concelebration in Austria. First he was abbot coadjutor of his predecessor Ignaz Schachermair (1929–1970), from 1970 to 1982 abbot. In 1974 Abbot Albert was elected chairman of the conference of the diocese of Linz , with which he also became a priestly council . Albert Bruckmayr also led the 1200th anniversary of the monastery in 1977.
Albert Bruckmayr died on June 26, 1982 at the age of 68 in Wels, and was succeeded by Oddo Bergmair .
Ekkart Sauser judges that, as a professor, Bruckmayr managed to “instill real enthusiasm in the students, especially for Latin and Greek”. His motto , Christ hodie ( Christ today ) expresses that Bruckmayr was particularly committed to the current proclamation of Christ . Sauser describes his work as abbot as “majestic and very amiable, awesome and at the same time very sympathetic”.
