Albert II. Krummendiek
Albert Krummendiek , also Krummediek , (* 1417 or 1418; † October 27, 1489 in Kaltenhof ) was as Albert II. 1466 to 1489 Bishop of Lübeck.
biography
Krummendiek came from the Schleswig-Holstein Uradels family ( Equites Originarii ) from Krummendiek and had excellent family ties to the Danish royal family and to King Christian I. He studied at the University of Leipzig from 1441 and at the University of Rostock from 1443 . From 1454 he was canon in Lübeck. Due to his many years of activity as a notary at the Rota Romana , he also had good connections with the Vatican. In 1462 he was on a diplomatic mission in Rome in connection with the Lüneburg Prelate War on behalf of the city of Lüneburg .
As a bishop he donated the triumphal cross built in 1477 by Bernt Notke for the Lübeck Cathedral with his own but borrowed funds . The costs amounted to 2,000 marks in Luebisch. Krummendiek is shown as a donor among the sculptures on the triumphal cross . According to a later anti-Catholic legend, Maria Magdalena is said to represent his beloved. His private finances never recovered from this generous foundation.
He commissioned the first printed missal for the Diocese of Lübeck ( Missale Lubicense ), which was published by Matthäus Brandis in Lübeck in 1486 . The book of hours ( Breviarium Lubicense ) that was also commissioned for the diocese was only published by Georg Stuchs in Nuremberg after his death .
