Albert Popwell

Albert Popwell (born July 15, 1926 in New York , † April 9, 1999 in Los Angeles ) was an American actor and dancer .

Life

Popwell made his Broadway debut in The Pirate at the age of 16 . He played in various Broadway productions until the mid-1960s, partly as a dancer, partly as an actor. He then began his career as a film and television actor, initially with guest roles in television series. In 1968 he first stood next to Clint Eastwood in front of the film camera when he played a supporting role in Coogan's Big Bluff . Except for the last part of the series, he appeared in all Dirty Harry films. In the first part of the film series, Popwell was not named in the credits; However, he is as the bank robber Clint Eastwood at the beginning of the film at gunpoint with the words Do you feel lucky, punk? challenges, part of the most famous scene of the series. He was also seen as a gangster in the next two parts of the series before he played Harry's partner in Dirty Harry Comes back . Popwell became famous in the 1970s for his role as Matthew Johnson in the blaxploitation films A Case for Cleopatra Jones and Cleopatra Jones against the Dragon Lady .

In addition, Popwell was seen in various series formats between the 1960s and 1980s, including guest roles in The Streets of San Francisco , Simon & Simon and The A-Team . He also appeared in the miniseries Roots - The Next Generations .
