Albert of Baczko

Albert Friedrich Ludwig von Baczko (born August 13, 1799 in Tilsit , † November 6, 1882 in Danzig ) was a Prussian lieutenant general and commander of the 2nd division .

Life

Albert was a son of the Prussian major general Joseph Theodor Sigismund von Baczko (1751-1840) and his wife Friederike Charlotte Auguste, née Feldmann (1773-1824).

Military career

Baczko attended high school in his hometown and from 1814 the cadet corps. He then joined the East Prussian Jäger Battalion of the Prussian Army as a hunter on May 13, 1815 and was promoted to Prime Lieutenant by mid-September 1831 . He was commanded on March 30, 1834 as adjutant of the inspection of the hunters and riflemen, in this capacity at the beginning of April 1838 promoted to captain and the 3rd rifle division aggregated . On September 29, 1840, he was appointed company commander in the 1st Rifle Division and on February 22, 1841, he was appointed commander of this division. He was christened on 31 May 1844 the character as a Major and on 19 April 1845 patent to his rank. On September 22, 1851 he was transferred to the 7th Infantry Regiment as a battalion commander and on March 23, 1852 promoted to lieutenant colonel. He then came on May 4, 1854 as a commander in the 12th Infantry Regiment . There he was promoted to colonel on July 13, 1854 , and on May 7, 1857, he was transferred to the 5th Infantry Brigade as a commander , and on June 8, 1857, he was assigned to the 12th Infantry Regiment à la suite . He was promoted to major general on May 22, 1858 and on May 22, 1859 with the Red Eagle Order III. Excellent with swords. On July 1, 1860, Baczko was initially commissioned to lead the 2nd division and on July 24, 1860, he was appointed commander of this large unit . On the occasion of Wilhelm I's coronation celebrations , he was promoted to Lieutenant General on October 18, 1861. However, his eyes had suffered and therefore he received a vacation to Bad Homburg from May 17th to August 5th, 1862 . Since no improvement ceased, he became the Red Eagle II. Baczko married Sophie Friederike Luise Emma Meier (1812–1878), divorced Alsleben, daughter of the rentier Meier from Berlin on August 14, 1837 in Berlin. The couple had several children.
