The Alberta Highway 216 , shortly AB 216 , the ring road around Edmonton , the capital of the Canadian province of Alberta ; it has a length of 70 km. The northern section of the highway is in the National Highway System as a core route, it serves as a bypass of the Yellowhead Highway . The route was named after Anthony Henday , an explorer with the Hudson's Bay Company . The number was composed of the highways 2 and 16 , which cross AB 216 several times.

Kilometer 0 of the highway is in the south of Edmonton at the junction of Highway 2 , the kilometering is clockwise. To the south, Highway 2 branches off, the Queen Elizabeth Highway, to the north this leads towards the center of Edmonton. After about 18 km, Highway meets Anthony Henday Drive again, coming from the center, the next 7 km both highways run together. Highway 16 , the Yellowhead Highway, comes from the Rocky Mountains and meets Highway 216, where the joint award with Highway 2 ends, which from there runs together with the Yellowhead Highway. The following northwest section is crossed again by Highway 2. Canadian Forces Base Edmonton is north of the ring road at the junction with Highway 28 . In the east, the Yellowhead Highway leaves Edmonton in the direction of Lloydminster and crosses Anthony Henday Drive again. Coming from the city center to the east, Highway 14 , which runs three kilometers together with Highway 216, joins the route and then branches off again eastwards to Camrose .
