The Alberta Highway 49 is part of the so-called Northern Woods and Water Route leads, a tourist route, the westernmost of the four provinces of Canada. The highway begins at the border with British Columbia and leads to the east, where he worked in Valley View on Highway 43 meets and merges into it. The route has a length of 266 km, the eastern section is part of the National Highway System .
Routing
The route begins in northwest Alberta on the border with British Columbia, from there it continues to Dawson Creek as British Columbia Highway 49 . It leads east through remote areas of Alberta, along the highway are the communities Spirit River , hence the nickname Spirit River Highway , and Rycroft . In Rycroft, Highway 2 crosses , which leads south to Grande Prairie and north in a wide arc to the town of Peace River . From there, Highway 2 leads back to Highway 49, the roads cross in Donnelly .
The section between Donnelly and Valleyview is part of the National Highway System of Canada, Route 49 is included as the core route. From Donnelly onwards, the Northern Woods and Water Route also ends, and continues on Highway 2.
