The U 24 is a former submarine of the German Navy.
history
The submarine was built by Rhein-Stahl-Nordseewerke in Emden and laid down on March 20, 1972 . The launch took place on June 26, 1973, the commissioning on October 16, 1974. The submarine belonged to the 3rd submarine squadron, which was stationed in Eckernförde. From March 1991, the submarine class 206 was converted to the type 206 Alpha.
Whereabouts
The submarine was decommissioned on March 31, 2011. According to the decision of the Federal Security Council, the U 24 and its sister boat U 23 were converted by Thyssen Krupp Marine Systems in 2015 and sold to Colombia, where it is used as an ARC Indomable to combat cocaine smuggling and to secure oil fields.
