Alexander Lukitsch Ptuschko

Aleksandr Ptushko ( Russian Александр Лукич Птушко ; born April 6 . Jul / 19th April  1900 greg. In Luhansk , Russian Empire , now Ukraine ; † 6. March 1973 in Moscow ) was a Soviet film director and screenwriter . His film adaptations of Russian fairy tales and legends shaped the style and were also ahead of their time in terms of tricks.

Life and accomplishments

Ptuschko studied from 1923 to 1926 at the Plekhanov Institute for Economics in Moscow , but then turned to animation. From 1927 he belonged to the Mosfilmstudio and initially shot short puppet cartoons ; In 1935, The New Gulliver was the world's first full-length puppet cartoon. In the following years he was primarily involved as a special effects director in the films of other directors, initially for Mosfilm and during the Second World War for Kazakh film in Alma-Ata . After the end of the war he turned to real-life films, The Stone Flower , his first work in this creative phase, was an international success. After that, eight more works were created, after the drama Three Encounters Ptuschko concentrated exclusively on children's and fairy tale films . He shot with well-known actors such as Mikhail Janschin , Ninel Myshkova and Mikhail Trojanowski . A frequent actor in his films was Sergei Martinson .

In addition to his active film work, he also held a professorship at what is now the Gerasimov Institute for Cinematography from 1932 to 1949 and was head of the Soyuzmultfilmstudio from 1944 to 1946 .

Ptuschko died a few weeks before his 73rd birthday and found his final resting place in the Novodevichy Cemetery , Section 7 / Row 3, in Moscow. His grave is now adorned with a wooden sculpture.

His daughter Natalja, born in 1926, has worked as an assistant director for Mosfilm since 1957 , including working with her father several times. She died on October 18, 2008 and was buried next to him.
