Alfred Eisenbeisser (in Romania often also Alfred Fieraru or Fredi Fieraru ; born April 7, 1908 in Czernowitz , Austria-Hungary (now Ukraine ); † July 1, 1991 in Berlin , Germany ) was a Romanian football player and figure skater of German origin.

With the Romanian national soccer team he took part in the 1930 World Cup. As a figure skater, he and his partner Irina Timcic participated in the European Figure Skating Championships in 1934 in Seefeld in Tyrol , as well as in the figure skating competition of the 1936 Winter Olympics in Garmisch-Partenkirchen . Together with Ileana Moldovan he took part in his second European figure skating championship in 1939 in Davos .

Career as a football player

Career start with Jahn Czernowitz

Eisenbeisser, who was born in what is now the Ukraine, did not begin his active football career until he was a teenager, when he was accepted into the youth department of the now defunct club Jahn Czernowitz ( Romanian Jahn Cernăuți) in 1923 . After he was used there until 1928, mainly in the youth field, he was accepted from the 1928/29 season as a permanent part of the men's team, which had its game operations at that time in the regional championship of Chernivtsi. After the team was ranked 6th in the first class of the Chernivtsi Championship in the final table after the 1927/28 season, the team came in 5th place in the table in the following season. As runner-up in the first class of the Chernivtsi Championship, he left the club in 1930 in the direction of Dragoș Vodă Cernăuți , a local rival.

After Eisenbeisser was appointed to the Romanian national team in 1930 , he was the only player in the history of Dragoș Vodă Cernăuți who ever played for the Romanian national team until the club was dissolved during the Second World War . After a 6th place in the 1930/31 season, the midfielder and the team reached third place in the table in the first class of the regional championship of Chernivtsi at the end of the 1931/32 season. Immediately afterwards another club change followed for Eisenbeisser, which this time brought him to Bucharest to the then successful club Venus Bucharest .

The time at Venus Bucharest

For the team, which won the Romanian championship for the fourth time in the club's history in the preseason, he played in ten championship games in his first season. He made his league and professional debut on October 23, 1932 with a clear 6-0 home win over Clubul Atletic Oradea . In the league, which was still divided at that time, he came with the team in the final classification of Group 2 on the fourth place in the table, but could have the best goal difference in Group 2. In the following season 1933/34 , the only second season of the newly founded Divizia A , the top division in Romanian football, the team performance increased significantly. Eisenbeisser was used in all 15 games of his team and was able to record his first goal in professional football. At the end of the season he became Romanian football champion for the first time in his career after a 3-2 win in the first leg and a 5-3 win in the second leg of the final .

The 1934/35 season , in which the 1.75 m tall midfielder demonstrated his offensive game more and more and thus scored three goals in 21 league games, was largely successful for the team. Nevertheless, at the end of the season it was not possible to follow up on the success of the previous season and was only third in the championship behind Ripensia Timișoara in 1st place and Clubul Atletic Oradea in 2nd place. In the following 1935/36 season , the committed player clearly showed his scoring risk, as he was also used more aggressively at this point. Eight goals in 22 games and a fifth place in the final table he was able to record at the end of the season.

The 1936/37 season went much better , in which Eisenbeisser won the Romanian championship again and again with the team. Nevertheless, he was only able to record eight championship appearances in this successful season, but all of them remained goalless. With the team he also took part in the Mitropapokal 1937 , where he was used in a game and was eliminated with the team in the round of 16 against Újpest Budapest with a total score of 5:10. In the 1937/38 season , which, in contrast to the previous season, was played again in two groups, Venus Bucharest reached second place in Group 2, but with +46 goals could clearly have the best goal difference in the entire league and only had at the end of the season one point behind the group leader Ripensia Timișoara. Eisenbeisser was used in eleven games in which he only scored a goal.

In the 1938/39 season Venus Bucharest was the clearly dominant team in Divizia A. In all 22 championship games, the team around Alfred Eisenbeisser, Andrei Bărbulescu , Gheorghe Albu , Iuliu Bodola , Lazăr Sfera or Rudolf Demetrovici suffered a single defeat. With nine points ahead of pursuers Ripensia Timișoara, the team became Romanian football champions for the seventh time in the club's history, for Eisenbeisser it was the third success of this kind. As in the last two seasons, the midfielder was used less and less, although he was also in 1938 / 39 could only record eight appearances in the highest Romanian football league. Furthermore, he came to two missions in the Mitropapokal 1939 , where he was used in both games of his team and thus in the quarterfinals with a total score of 1: 5 against the AGC Bologna from the current competition. In Divizia A 1939/40 , in which Venus Bucharest's defense was once again secure and only allowed 19 goals against, Eisenbeisser was once again Romanian champion with the club. After the runner-up Rapid Bucharest , who also won the Romanian Cup this season , Venus Bucharest was the most attacking team in the league with 59 goals. Eisenbeisser also showed his goal threat again this season and scored three goals in 14 championship games.

In the 1940/41 season , the last season before Romania's entry into World War II, the midfielder came to other missions for Venus Bucharest, who only ranked fourth in the final ranking this season. He graduated on August 31, 1941, in the 0-0 away draw against Rapid Bucharest, his last official game in the top soccer division of Romania. After the championship was paused for a year due to the war, two more (but unofficial) championships were held in 1942/43 and 1943/44. In 1942/43 Eisenbeisser made three championship appearances, in 1943/44 there were only two appearances. In the 1942/43 season, which was also completed, the team took fourth place in the table. In the 1943/44 season, which was canceled during ongoing operations, the team ranked after 13 completed games (some teams only came up twelve games) in twelfth and thus last place in the table.

The time in the Romanian national team

Having already played one game for the B-national team of Romania, he was in 1930 in the senior team appointed in the country. At the same time, he was called up to the Romanian squad that took part in the 1930 World Cup in Uruguay . Eisenbeisser was used in both of Romania's preliminary round matches against hosts Uruguay and Peru . With the team, however, he retired as second in the group in the preliminary round from the current competition. In the end, group opponent Uruguay became the world champion of the first World Cup. Another seven appearances in the national team followed in 1931, 1935, 1936, 1938 and 1939 against opponents such as Czechoslovakia (amateurs), Hungary (amateurs), Poland , Yugoslavia and Greece .

Career as a figure skater

Parallel to his career as a football player, Eisenbeisser was also active as a figure skater . He won, among other things, in the years 1933, 1935 and 1937 together with his partner Irina Timcic the pair skating at the Romanian figure skating championships . Among other things, he took part with Timcic, who was two years his junior, in the figure skating competition at the 1936 Winter Olympics, where they came in 13th place in pair skating . He also represented Romania at the European Figure Skating Championships in 1934 and 1939 . After he came seventh in pair skating with his partner Irinia Timcic at the European Championships in Seefeld in Tirol in 1934 , he finished ninth with his new partner Ileana Moldovan at the 1939 European Championship in the Swiss spa town of Davos , which also meant last place. After the end of his active career as a professional football player, Eisenbeisser returned to figure skating and was again Romanian figure skating champion in pair skating in 1954, 1955 and 1958, where he was at an advanced age together with Timcic, who in Romania also went under the surname Minculescu was known.
