Alfred Schneider (lawyer)

Alfred Schneider (born July 20, 1911 in Berlin ; † June 16, 1998 ) was a German lawyer, civil servant and from 1962 to 1975 President of the Government of Kassel .

Life

After studying law, he was first an assessor at the Kassel District Court and then legal counsel at the AOK Kassel. In 1939 he was drafted into military service and was taken prisoner by the Soviets, from which he was only released in 1953, severely damaged by the war. In the same year he was hired as a councilor at the Kassel regional council. On January 1, 1956, Alfred Schneider, who was a member of the SPD, was promoted to Vice President of the Regional Council. From January 1, 1962 to August 31, 1975 he was Kassel's regional president. From 1966 to 1968 he was a member of the documenta council for the 4th documenta in 1968 in Kassel.

He was a member of the expert commission for administrative reform in Hesse in the 1970s and campaigned for the preservation of the regional council.
