Allen York (born June 17, 1989 in Wetaskiwin , Alberta ) is a former Canadian ice hockey goalkeeper who played for the Columbus Blue Jackets in the National Hockey League between 2006 and 2016 .

Career

York played during his junior years between 2006 and 2008 for the Camrose Kodiaks in the Alberta Junior Hockey League , with whom he won the Rogers Wireless Cup in both seasons . During this time, the goalkeeper was selected by the Columbus Blue Jackets from the National Hockey League in the sixth round of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft in 158th place. York initially went to the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute for three years until spring 2011 and, while studying, played for their ice hockey team in ECAC Hockey , a division of the National Collegiate Athletic Association .

After finishing his college career, York moved to the professional camp and was at the end of the 2010/11 season with the Springfield Falcons , the farm team of the Columbus Blue Jackets, in the American Hockey League for use. In the 2011/12 season , the goalie then temporarily served as Steve Mason's substitute for the Blue Jackets . In total, however, there were only eleven NHL missions, five of which he completed as a starter. He then spent the following game year in the AHL and ECHL .

After the 2012/13 season, Columbus did not extend the contract with York, so this joined the Evansville Icemen from the ECHL. In the course of the season, the goalkeeper also worked for the Charlotte Checkers , Texas Stars , Rockford IceHogs and Syracuse Crunch in the AHL and the South Carolina Stingrays in the ECHL via various loan deals. He also took part in the Spengler Cup with Team Canada . At the end of the 2013/14 season, York then firmly joined the Syracuse Crunch and soon received a contract valid for the NHL with their cooperation partner, the Tampa Bay Lightning . York spent most of his seasons in the ECHL with the Florida Everblades and Greenville Swamp Rabbits , before ending his career at the age of 26 during the current season in March 2016.
