Maria Aloysius "Alois" Willibald Eustace Matthew Francis of the Cross Graf von Waldburg-Zeil and Trauchburg (* 20th September 1933 in Leutkirch im Allgäu , † 14. December 2014 ) was a German politician of the CDU .

family

Alois von Waldburg-Zeil and Trauchburg was the fourth of a total of seven children from the marriage of Erich August Prince von Waldburg zu Zeil and Trauchburg (1899-1953) and Princess Monika zu Löwenstein-Wertheim-Rosenberg (1905-1992) and was at Zeil Castle born near Leutkirch. Georg Fürst von Waldburg zu Zeil was his older brother.

Life

After attending the Schloss Zeil elementary school, he completed the Salvatorkolleg Bad Wurzach . After graduating from the St. Blasien college , Alois von Waldburg-Zeil studied economics and political science in Bonn , Rome and Munich .

In 1964 he founded the Weltforum- Verlag in Munich and was managing director and co-editor of the magazines Internationales Afrikaforum and Internationales Asianforum until 1979 .

From 1998 to 2006 Alois Graf von Waldburg-Zeil was President of the Institute for Foreign Relations ; Her successor was Ursula Seiler-Albring .

Political career

In 1962 he became a member of the CDU and from 1981 to 1993 was a member of the Baden-Württemberg state executive committee of the Union. From 1972 to 1980 he was a member of the Argenbühl municipal council .

From 1980 to 1998 Alois Graf von Waldburg-Zeil was a member of the German Bundestag for the Biberach constituency . He was elected in 1983 with 75.1 percent in his constituency in Biberach.

From 1980 to 1983 he was in the German Bundestag member of the Committee on Economic Cooperation and the Subcommittee on Human Rights and Humanitarian Aid from 1990 to 1994 he was education policy spokesman of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group, then to 1998, chairman of the subcommittee on foreign cultural policy .
