Alphabetical list of winners of the ancient Olympic games
This is an alphabetical list of the winners of the Ancient Olympic Games .
The bold digits in the column number of victory and individual evidence refer to the number of the victory in the list above.
Names in bold italics denote periodonics . Thus, all currently known periodonics are listed here, as this title contains the declared victory at the Olympic Games of antiquity .
The list (number at the beginning) follows exactly the numbering made by Luigi Moretti .
The remarks about the pure number of the victory are not to be found in Moretti, but additionally, mostly added from the Realencyclopedia of classical antiquity .
The list has been sorted alphabetically. If there are several of the same names, Moretti has - inconsistently - sorted either by type of sport or location.
The addition "von ..." does not mean a surname, but explains the region / place of origin. Missing from information means that the origin is unknown.
So far, this list is based on Moretti's monograph from 1957; the two supplements to it have not been evaluated. It can change due to new epigraphic and archaeological finds and therefore does not claim to be complete.
